Life in Metro
Recently I read an article on metro etiquette. There were a lot of issues. Well it’s great to know the journalist concern I really appreciate that, but he is not alone in the expedition to teach people to behave. Actually a lot people are teacher and preachers in metro itself. They will tell you where to stand how to stand how to behave etc. when you are entering the metro the two men ahead of you will take the sentinel position on doors to mark your entry and the people backing you will ensure that you don’t lose your way and ensure your entry in the metro, even again the current of people getting down. Oh Deeear!!! That’s so nice of them. Now if you want some space (not to sit but to stand), Man! You are on a wrong place, but you can make space for yourself. How? Here’s the answer. Even if you see no space, ask them to “make” some. And if some body tell you there is no space I am sure somebody will tell you, have this ready “jagah toh banane se banti hai”. Here you go “desi” boy. Every day people practice their terse answers in metro, look how people hone our communication while they are traveling, they so productive all the time except work. Even if this does not work shake you body little the vibration will let people fall into places. As you know the packing is close if the content is vibrated. Precisely that’s the reason the drivers applies sudden brakes and will give you sudden acceleration. You don’t tell him how to drive he knows his job. If you do not want to get down go far from the door, though even people there might ask you “if you want to get down, if not give them way”. Actually metro is so advanced for them, they wonder there might be some ejection system there you might get out from? If you want to get down, get close to door where the sentinels are waiting for you. While maneuvering through the crowd do say “please” or “excuse me” but… but… but… it must sound like “fuck you”. Now as you are close to doors and your station come the crowd will make you get down and a sentinel or two may also get down others, No… no… no… don’t take them wrong that they block the way rather act as a throttle to cause fast exit of people. This is how life is in metro.
You should know Pankaj, in India our people never learn, manners, or let others do.That is in our blood, if you try to behave well people look you like an alien. People including me are selfish, we just say things doesn't think about others . I recently heard a joke that we behave well in queue in front of liquor shops only. I remember the days i travelled on locals on Mumbai.....God is great, I am still alive!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteSir, you forgot to mention the free entertainment provided by fellow travelers in the form of loud Himesh Reshammiya music buzzing out of their Chinese cellphones which adds to the Metro "Safar/Suffer". Great Post!!
